What is this all about?

This  is my journey to hopefully become a fully-fledged lawyer.

I am in my late twenties and have a one year old daughter. I did science A levels and left university after 2 years of a science degree. I worked in the music industry, specifically in licensing music (for films, compilations and to other territories). This gave me my first insight into law, and I decided to start studying with the Open University.

I did the first two years full time while working full time - moving into marketing at a major record label on the advice of a music lawyer who suggested I get some major label experience. Half way through the second year I had my daughter, and despite the upheaval, I managed to pass the year with a Distinction. I decided to do the third year part-time to maximise my chances on getting a First overall.

I should have the LLB finished by October 2009, which leaves 11 months until the LPC start in September 2010. That's the easy bit - it's securing a training contract that will be hard. I am worried mainly about my poor A levels (BCD)  and my failure to complete my first degree. I am looking for a 2011 start to the training contract, most of which start taking applications late this year/early next, which gives me a few months to improve my CV.

I have a Careers Day at the OU mid-June, and also hope to make some headway with securing work experience placements for this year.

I am also thinking about doing some more A levels, but I don't know if that's really where I should be concentrating. I've applied to a local college to do English Literature and Politics, so I'll decide when I hear back from them.
